Stranraer Development Trust are pleased to announce that funding of £15,000 has been granted by Dumfries and Galloway Council for the 2022 Oyster Festival. The funding was first announced in April 2020 and the Development Trust has now put detailed plans in place to deliver the Festival in the Autumn of 2022. This funding will help secure the return of the Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors to the area and in 2019 generated over £1million for the economy.
The seafood celebration promotes the town’s native oyster heritage from the shores of Loch Ryan, home to Scotland’s last remaining wild, native oyster fisher and welcomes people from all over the UK and abroad.
Visitors can also experience local artisan crafts, from the many stall holders that attend the weekend festival, along with activities for all the family, live local music and entertainment.
Councillor Adam Wilson, the Council’s Events Champion said, “The Oyster Festival is one of Scotland’s most important food festivals and has tremendous local support and economic significance. The Council is absolutely determined to safeguard and promote the Festival and our funding provides an excellent platform for the Development Trust’s work to plan the Autumn 2022 programme.”
